Feb. 22 - March 3, 2019 St. Anthony’s Relics Visit Georgia (USA)

Two holy relics of Saint Anthony of Padua will visit the Diocese of Savannah, Georgia, from Friday, Feb. 22nd. to Sunday, March 3rd. The Bishop of Savannah, His Eminence Bishop Gregory Hartmayer, OFM Conv., has invited Fr. Bortolino Maistrello, a friar of the Basilica, to bring two holy and precious relics of Saint Anthony of Padua to his Diocese in Georgia. This relic visit will therefore be an “on the road” tour as the relics will visit churches in each of the seven diocesan deaneries. The visit will be part of the first North American holy relics tour for 2019 to prepare Catholics for the season of Lent, which begins March 6 with Ash Wednesday.
“The honoring of the relics of the saints is an ancient tradition of the Catholic Church,” said Savannah Bishop Gregory J. Hartmayer. “The relics remind us of the holy men and women who lived a life of holiness and charity and many even became martyrs for the faith. “To host the relic of St. Anthony of Padua in the city of Savannah and churches throughout the Diocese is a unique opportunity to gather the faithful to pay respect to a Franciscan saint who is popular among Catholics and other faith traditions. “St. Anthony is best known for his intercession in helping people find lost articles, but also to assist people in rediscovering their lost faith, hope, forgiveness, relationships, employment, reputation, patience, love and many other losses in their lives.”
Prayer petitions with holy cards will be distributed in each parish to allow parishioners to write their prayer petition and intentions to the saint. The writing of a prayer petition is a worldwide tradition when venerating a relic of a saint.
